By buying locally produced food, goods, and services from locally owned businesses, we can stimulate our own economy instead of waiting for help to ride into town from... somewhere, maybe. We literally have the power to help ourselves overcome some of the economic problems that have been imposed on us by the unbridled greed of the financial markets, corporate incompetence and stupidity, and inept government.
Our collective power is huge and comes from our wallets. If we keep our money circulating within the community, it sustains and builds our own economy, not the one supporting all those mega chain stores, or the one supporting foreign countries like China. The guy who owns the fishing store, and the woman who owns the home furnishings store, are our neighbours. The money we spend with them has the potential to be spent again and again within the community. Money we spend at chain stores has little chance to circulate because it is quickly sucked out of our region to sustain corporations and countries not the least bit interested in helping us maintain a viable local economy.
I have just ordered pure Lambswool Duvets from The Bed Expert of Kingsbridge.
These are naturally hypo-allergenic duvets made from Devon Wool, in Devon and supplied by a Devon company, delivered to a Devonshire Hotel to be put on British handmade Beds. Now if they weren't any good we wouldn't be buying them, but the beauty of dealing with passionate people and talking directly with the owners of these products is that we fully understand each others needs, we have had the opportunity to road test the products ourselves and I can safely say I now sleep better and for longer undisturbed than ever before. Yes, it costs more than a cheaper alternative, but by working together top help each other out we have kept these additional costs to a minimum and we are sure your continued loyal custom that can only improve from added comfort will help to minimise our need to spend lots of money on expensive advertising.
By the way these duvets are also stocked by Harrods, but don't worry our local shop will supply and deliver them to you free of charge nationwide!
