We wanted to let you know we are now open for all of 2012 including November and December culminating in the highlight - our Christmas and New Year House Party’s.

Christmas is from Saturday the 23^rd of December until Wednesday the 27^th.

Champagne Reception’s, wine tastings, cookery demonstrations, guided walks to a local inn with hot toddies along the way, music and quiz’s,  lots of delicious food and acres of space to relax, curl up and  enjoy time away from the hullabaloo of everyday modern life.

Castaways will be transformed into Santas grotto for children to enjoy colouring & cookery competitions before Santa himself visits with presents for guests of all ages.

New Year from Saturday the 30^th of December until Tuesday the 2^nd of January 2013.

Quiet times before and after a classic Black Tie Evening, as only Soar Mill Cove can do Start New Years Eve with champagne and canapés, enjoy a gourmet dinner, join hands for auld lang syne and dance the night away. Just given a cheque to The National Trust at South Down Farm for £780. This was all raised by our guests staying in 2011 as part of our discretionary donation scheme. The National Trust will spend this at Soar Mill Cove to upkeep this beautiful valley setting.

Christmas already? Surely Not!

Please don't worry I know we've all only just recovered form the last one, but given that its still fresh in all our minds for all reasons, whether good or bad I thought it was time to mention we are open at Christmas time.

No cooking, washing up or driving to do, just roll up, kick back and let us do all the hardwork this year.

We have enjoyed somewhat of a sabbatical for the last few years as we have been busy building so Christmas has been a simple affair at home. Guess what we hate been shut, not just me and Jenny but so does our youngest of boys, Matt.

Soar Mill Cove is just not the same without guests, far too quiet for us.

Cycling with the natural resources on our doorstep

My wife, Jenny, my lad Matt and our friends the Dwyer's enjoyed a great day out cycling the trails of Haldon Forest this Sunday.

What a great natural resource that has been so enhanced.

The lads went all guys blazing through the Advanced crazy course while we took the Moderate one, which proved to be a great balance of challenging mixed terrain and thrills without the spills. Young Matt complains that this morning his posterior is aching and Jenny is in the process of crawling out of bed.

Everyone enjoyed it but I tend to think it might not appeal to all my clan as a weekly past time and I think it is going to be grouped with a family opinion of "not another one of dads great ideas". I think the picture says it all really!

The only downside of the day was finding the fab cafe that we were so looking forward to visiting was shut, awaiting a new tenant. Only food offering was a burger bar, so the lads been lads chose not to resist its charmed as they munched their way through bacon butties and us oldies opted for a more yummy lunch at Turtley Corn Mill on the way home. Oh yes, and guess what, the lads managed a full meal here as well. Well they are growing teenagers!

A Funny Moment

A guest checked in and asked our receptionist for a single room.

As the recptionist filled out the paperwork, the man looks around and sees a gorgeous blonde sitting in the lobby. He tells the receptionist to wait while he disappears into the lobby.

After a minute he comes back, with the girl on his arm.

"Fancy meeting my wife here," he says to the recptionist. "Guess I'll need a double room for the night."

Next morning, he comes to settle his bill, and finds the amount to be over £1000. "What's the meaning of this?" he yells at the receptionist. "I've only been here one night!"

"Yes," says the receptionist, "but your wife has been here for three weeks."
